Weber - Weber Joint Wide Grout

About this product

weber.joint wide is a cement-based grouting compound for ceramic and porcelain tiles for interior and exterior use. Grouts ceramic, porcelain, mosaic, quarry, natural stone, terrazzo, terracotta tiles, and brick slips.

Preparation

Ensure that the adhesive has set and dried and that the tiles are firm.

Adhesive should normally be left for at least 24 hours before grouting, unless using a rapid set adhesive, when it should normally be left for 2 – 3 hours. Longer may be required on sealed or impervious surfaces.

Ensure that tiles and joints are clean and free from grease or any other contamination.

If movement is expected, use weber AD230 in the mix or use weber.joint wide flex. If the grout is required to be completely impervious to water or chemically resistant, use weber.joint epoxy.

Mixing

It is recommended that a low-speed mechanical mixer is used. Gradually add 3 parts of grout to 1 part (by volume) of clean water and mix to a smooth, stiff, workable paste. Allow to stand for 5 mins. and re-mix thoroughly. Do not re-wet or add too much water, as this will cause the set grout to be weak, with a tendency to crumble. It may also cause surface discolouration and variation, especially with darker colours.

Application

Do not use at temperatures below 5°C.
Using a squeegee or a rubber float, apply the grout to a small area at a time. Completely fill the joints leaving no voids. Excess grout should be removed immediately using a rubber float held at 90° to the tiles. This should be moved diagonally across the tiles to prevent removal of grout within the joints.

When the grout has started to dry, after 5 – 10 minutes (less at temperatures above 20°C) the tiles should be cleaned with an emulsifying pad. This should be used in a circular motion to loosen the grout residue. The tiles should now be wiped with a clean damp sponge until all residue is removed. When dry, polish the tiles with a clean, dry cloth.

Tools and equipment should be washed in water immediately after use.

Addition of weber AD230
Incorporating weber AD230 into the grout will increase the grout’s strength, flexibility and impermeability.

This is recommended in severe conditions, where there will be heavy usage, when tiling onto a water sensitive substrate, or where limited movement/vibration is likely (e.g. tiling on timber).

Warning

Some tiles may have a soft surface which can be scratched during grouting.
Some tiles with a matt or porous texture are prone to surface staining when coloured grouts are used. The use of an appropriate protective sealer is recommended.

Some tile faces have shallow depressions that can fill with grout. This grout must be removed before it hardens. When using a grout that is a similar colour to the tiles, it can be difficult to see any residue that is left in these shallow depressions. It is recommended that in these instances the tiles should be treated with an appropriate protective sealer that helps to stop grout sticking to the tile face.

You are advised to test the grout on a spare tile before proceeding.

Allowance for movement

Flexible joints should be incorporated to allow for slight movements due to changes in temperature, humidity etc. as indicated by BS5385:
a) Where the tiling meets other materials (e.g. floor perimeters)
b) Along all internal corners – vertically and horizontally
c) Over existing movement joints or changes in background material
d) Dividing large tiled areas into bays (every 3 – 4.5 m on walls, 8 – 10 m on floors)

Storage and Shelf life

When stored unopened in a cool, dry place at temperatures above 5°C, shelf life is 12 months from date of manufacture. If stored longer, setting times will increase.
