About this product

stoneset fine wall and floor grout is a water-repellent polymer-modified grout for natural stone, ceramic, porcelain and mosaic tiles in dry and wet conditions including swimming pools.

Suitable for both interior and exterior use, at joint widths up to 10 mm.

Preparation

Ensure that the adhesive has set and dried, and that the tiles are firm.

Adhesive should normally be left for at least 24 hours before grouting, unless using a rapid set adhesive, when it should normally be left for 2 – 3 hours. Longer may be required on sealed and impervious surfaces.

For swimming pools, leave for at least 3 days before grouting.

Joints should be clean, dry, and free from adhesive, grease or any other contamination. Seal the stones if necessary and allow to dry.

If the grout is required to be completely impervious to water, or chemically resistant, use weber.joint epoxy.

Mixing

Gradually add approximately 2 1/2 parts powder to 1 part (by volume) of clean water, and mix to a smooth, stiff, workable paste.
After mixing, allow the mix to stand for 5 min. and add more powder if necessary.
Do not re-wet or add too much water, as this will cause the set grout to be weak, with a tendency to crumble. It may also cause, surface discolouration and variation in colour, especially with darker colours.

Application

Do not use at temperatures below 5°C.
Using a squeegee or a rubber float, apply the grout to a small area at a time. Completely fill the joints leaving no voids. Excess grout should be removed immediately using a rubber float held at 90° to the tiles. This should be moved diagonally across the tiles to prevent removal of grout within the joints.

When the grout has started to dry, after 5 – 10 minutes (less at temperatures above 20°C) the tiles should be cleaned with an emulsifying pad. This should be used in a circular motion to loosen the grout residue. The tiles should now be wiped with a clean damp sponge until all residue is removed.

When dry, polish the tiles with a clean, dry cloth.

Tools and equipment should be washed in water immediately after use.

Warning

Some tiles may have a soft surface which can be scratched during grouting.
Some tiles with a matt or porous texture are prone to surface staining when coloured grouts are used. The use of an appropriate protective sealer is recommended.
Certain natural stones such as limestone, marble, slate, sandstone and terracotta will require sealing prior to grouting.

Some tile faces have shallow depressions that can fill with grout. This grout must be removed before it hardens. When using a grout that is a similar colour to the tiles, it can be difficult to see any residue that is left in these shallow depressions. It is recommended that in these instances the tiles should be treated with an appropriate protective sealer that helps to stop grout sticking to the tile face.

You are advised to test the grout on a spare tile before proceeding.

An admix should not be used with this grout as it will make it difficult to use and could cause the grout to crack.
Allowance for movement
Flexible joints should be incorporated to allow for slight movements due to changes in temperature, humidity etc. as indicated by BS5385:

a) where the tiling meets other materials (e.g. floor perimeters)
b) along all internal corners – vertically and horizontally
c) over existing movement joints or changes in background material
d) dividing large tiled areas into bays (every 3 – 4.5 m on walls, 8 – 10 m on floors)

Health and Safety

Contains cement (Contains chromium (VI). May produce an allergic reaction). Harmful by inhalation. Irritating to eyes and skin. Keep out of the reach of children. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical help. After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of soap and water. Wear suitable protective clothing, gloves and eye/face protection.

Storage and Shelf life

When stored unopened in a dry place at temperatures above 5°C, shelf life is 12 months from date of manufacture. If stored longer, setting times will increase.
